[Seminar] A brief overview of chip-scale atomic clocks

Résumé

The interrogation of isolated atoms has been a key enabler in many highly accurate instruments, in particular in atomic clocks used around the globe to keep track of time. While international timescales rely on some of the most accurate and complex atomic clocks, many field applications require devices featuring small size, weight and power. Over the past decades, research efforts have intensified to miniaturise and achieve chip-scale devices that can be embedded and deployed, for instance, in navigation and telecommunication systems. In this talk, I will present a brief overview of the advances in the field and discuss some other prospects miniature atomic devices could address.
