UHF-RFID Power Distance Profiles for Analysis of Propagation Absorbing Effect

Résumé

This paper is based on an experimental setup for RFID tag characterization using an Alien 9900+ reader. The first part uses a technique based on the joint acquisition of the tag response versus transmitted power and distance for determining the RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) conversion toward the received power. The second part presents an experiment which illustrates the effect of absorbing panels on the read range. Observations showed that having no absorbing panels improves the read range of the tag. Multipath have been observed being beneficial for the read range.
