This study was designed to determine if there are injurious effects from the background of anthropogenic radio frequency (RF) pollution on the health and growth of aspen and on aspen/microbiome symbiosis. The experiment compared health and growth outcomes for aspens exposed to the ambient RF background, in a rural area of Colorado, with the same parameters in RF shielded aspens. Inoculation with a plant symbiotic fungal microbiome, MycoGrow (MG) was the second independent variable. Forest decline was first seen and has been increasing since the mid-19 th century. Sudden aspen decline (SAD) was identified in 2004 in Colorado. From 1800 up to the present, generation and use of electricity has also increased and has radically changed the earth's electromagnetic environment. The results of this experiment indicate that exposure of aspen to ambient RF background may impair aspen/microbiome symbiosis, and promote summer leaf necrosis and leaf loss consistent with SAD.
