The Two-Headed Opus
Résumé
THE METAPHOR CONTAINED in the title of Atwood’s volume of poetry 'Two-Headed Poems' not only is central to the eponymous poem and to the volume of poetry itself, but it also resurfaces in all of Atwood’s work from her very first book of poetry to the later novels. It is my intention to demonstrate that the two-headed epithet may be used to describe Atwood’s work not only because each book of fiction or poetry is based on a principle of duality but also because the two modes of writing themselves are like the two heads of one body.
