Assessing the Moroccan Development Model through a Comparative Analysis of Resource Use
Résumé
The identication of resource use and eciency as a major issue of sustainable development, has led to a rapid development of a complete framework to analyse it. It has given rise to several recent publications that assess the development model of a region based on its physical ows. Throughout this article, we applied this framework to Morocco as a developing country with intermediate growth. The data analysis showed clearly an evolution in the economic structure of Morocco during the period studied. Before 1990, Moroccan economy was Biomass oriented as a sign of underdeveloped country. During this period, Morocco worked on its main drivers which allowed it to switch in the nineties to a developing country. The strong growth that followed, was more oriented towards infrastructure than industry. This arbitration allowed to mitigate the ecological impact in terms of waste generation, but hampered the potential of development later on.
