Trapping of field-induced liquid crystalline structures by a polymeric network
Résumé
Field-induced structures in liquid-crystalline materials are fixed into a polymeric network and definitely kept after the electric field is switched off. The method is demonstrated in the case of the field-induced texture of rotative spirals, close to the cholesteric to nematic untwisting transition. In the end, the material is embbeded in a resin lump, ready for ultramicrotomy operations or for uses as optical components.
