Shear viscosity experiment in side-chain nematic polymers

Résumé

We have measured the shear viscosity of side-chain nematic polymers as a function of temperature and chain length. Comparison with a previous determination of the twist viscosityγ1 confirms that the dissipative processes in these systems are essentially of the polymeric type and that they may be quantitatively interpreted in terms of an anisotropic dumbell model.
