Use of big data and artificial intelligence in medical practice: survey of doctors in Le Havre

Résumé

Digital tools have been increasingly developed with little use in medical practice for several reasons. We conducted this study to analyse the uses of technologies in medical practice and understand the barriers to their use. Doctors in the city of Le Havre constituted our study sample during the period from October 2018 to May 2019. Our survey showed a dematerialization of the electronic health records with a low use of connected objects. On the other hand, we noted a reluctance of doctors to the introduction of big data and artificial intelligence in medical practice because of the risks of infringing medical ethics and the harmful upheavals on the care relationship despite the many advantages. The main risk in medical practice could be the loss of the patient trust in their doctor. The implementation of processes for co-constructing tools with the collaboration of all the actors and the respect of professional rules is an option for their appropriation and integration into care.
