            <abstract xml:lang="en">
              <p>Identifying habitat types has become crucial to habitat management. This paper proposes an approach that takes into account the floristic variations of plant associations for the needs of habitat characterisation. Based on examples from grassland habitats, the authors show that floristic variations are indicators for ongoing ecological dynamic processes. This approach provides key indicators for making management choices. The paper focuses on the statistical tools currently available for analysing vegetation patterns, in particular the Juice software.</p>

            <abstract xml:lang="fr">
              <p>Afin de répondre aux besoins actuels en matière d’identification et de gestion des habitats naturels, un raisonnement fondé sur la prise en compte des variations floristiques des associations végétales est proposé. En s’appuyant sur des exemples relatifs aux systèmes prairiaux, il est montré que les variations floristiques représentent des indicateurs des processus écologiques. Ce type d’analyse fournit en conséquence des clés pour le pilotage des opérations de gestion. L’accent est mis sur les outils d’analyses statistiques de la végétation actuellement disponibles, notamment le logiciel Juice.</p>
