              <p>The probable consequences of changes in the major climate variables (rainfall, temperature, potential evapotranspiration) on growth and dieback of forest trees are analysed for the range of variations forecasted by global climate change models. The sensitivity of phenology (temperature effects) and levels of water constraints during the growing season (change in rainfall and potential evapotranspiration) are developed. On the basis of the relations established by a retrospective dendroclimatological approach between radial increment and climate, the consequences of climate variations on the radial increment of beech and on oak mortality are discussed.</p>

              <p>Les conséquences probables de l'évolution des principales variables climatiques (pluie, température, évapotranspiration potentielle) sur la croissance et le dépérissement des arbres forestiers sont analysées, dans la gamme de variation prédite par les modèles climatiques globaux. La sensibilité de la phénologie (effets thermiques) et des niveaux de contrainte hydrique pendant la saison de végétation (modification de pluviométrie et d'évapotranspiration potentielle) sont développées. À partir des relations expérimentales entre la croissance radiale et le climat, établies par dendroclimatologie (approche rétrospective), les conséquences des variations des conditions climatiques sur la croissance radiale du Hêtre et la mortalité des Chênes sont discutées.</p>
