Academic burnout among students: Effect of socio-demographic variables on burn-out levels
L’épuisement académique chez les étudiants : effet des variables sociodémographiques sur les niveaux de burn-out
Résumé
Student period is an important step among the various life events of the individual. Indeed, students are subjected to high pressures of success who do not go without its difficulties and may conduct to burnout syndrome. Objective The aim of this research is to study the mental health of students in terms of academic burnout. Demographic characteristics of students reporting burnout levels and variables that differentiate students’ burn-out levels are assessed. Method Three hundred and nineteen students answered at the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Student Survey (MBI-SS) validated in its French version. Results According with the literature, about 50% students tend to exhibit academic exhaustion. Conclusion This preliminary study deserved to be replicated more widely and on more specific samples of students.
