Evaluation of Measurement Uncertainties of D2S and LpAS4m in Open-Plan Offices

Résumé

Noise, and more particularly conversation noise, is a major source of annoyance for people working in open offices. Measuring the acoustic quality of this type of work environment is therefore an increasingly important issue. For the purposes of standardisation, the scientific community has defined indicators to evaluate the acoustic quality of open-plan offices, including the spatial decrease by doubling the distance (D2S) of the A-weighted level of a speech signal and the A-weighted level of speech at 4 metres from the source (LpAS4m). The ISO 3382-3 (2012) standard that defines these indicators makes no mention of their measurement uncertainties. The objective of this study is to address this shortcoming of the standard and to perform an analysis of the measurement uncertainty of D2S and LpAS4m. This entails first establishing an expression of measurement uncertainties for each indicator based on analytical developments, then validating these expressions using field measurements and finally carrying out a parametric analysis of uncertainties based on simulations.
