Acoustics and comics ? a silent media put sound into words and pictures
Résumé
Long conceived as a childish literature and a minor literary work, the comics genre is now generally considered the ninth art. Comics are also recognized as a robust tool for scientific popularization and largely used in the larger field of visual thinking. As an example, the idea of using the comics language to communicate data inspired the fastly growing style of 'data comics'. This paper will first present the way comics use and translate the dimensions of sound and can highlight the different areas that acoustics covers. How comics can be used in an acoustics course for introducing simple but also complicated concepts will be then discussed.
