Nanoparticles have been developed for more than 20 years as drug carrier systems for the administration of biologically active molecules and to control their biodistribution as well as their pharmacokinetic. In this review, nanoparticles made of polysaccharides have been considered. The methods available for their preparation are presented and the present state and prospects for their application as drug carrier systems are discussed. As suggested by the recent date of publication of most of the works cited in references this area is presently an active field of investigation.
