The introductiyyon of excellence in priority education. The construction of a new educational need?
L’introduction de l’« excellence » en éducation prioritaire. La fabrique d’un nouveau besoin éducatif ?
Résumé
This article draws on research conducted on the implementation of the Paths to Excellence programme in an educational district in the South of France, to question how these programmes focused on “excellence” construct a new educational need for certain students in priority education. After presenting the Paths of Excellence programme and its place in priority education in France, the article analyses the way that teachers confront the need to define this new need and target the students who are concerned by it. It goes on to explore the way the students understand their involvement in this programme and the effects it can have on their self-image.
Cet article propose, à partir d’une recherche sur la mise en place des Parcours d’excellence dans une académie du sud de la France, d’interroger comment l’apparition des dispositifs centrés sur l’« excellence » fabrique un nouveau besoin éducatif pour certains élèves de l’éducation prioritaire. Après avoir présenté les Parcours d’excellence au sein des politiques d’éducation prioritaire, il analyse la façon dont les personnels éducatifs se confrontent à la nécessité de définir ce nouveau besoin et de cibler les élèves qui en relèvent. Le propos s’intéresse ensuite à la manière dont les élèves appréhendent leur inscription dans ce dispositif et les effets que cela peut avoir sur la manière dont ils se perçoivent.
