For a critical approach to corporate social responsibility in Africa: the case of the gold mining sector (chapter 12)
Résumé
CSR has been the subject of an abundant critical literature but mainly related to the Western context. This text aims at questionning the adaptation of these criticisms to the context of West Africa through the analysis of three cases of gold mines in Mali and Burkina Faso.
The chapter shows that the CSR actions undertaken by the mining companies are recent. Stakeholders are very unevenly represented and CSR tools seem disconnected from reality. Above all, several social conflicts have erupted, which raise the question of the quality of "human resources management".
