Towards miniaturization of concentrated photovoltaics (CPV): impact on fabrication, performance and robustness of solar cells

Résumé

Micro-CPV is emerging with the potential to overcome conventional CPV weaknesses. With cells miniaturization, fabrication processes, electrical performance and potentially reliability are impacted. We present here improved fabrication techniques to provide high performance microcells and high wafer throughput. We demonstrate cells fabrication with active area ranging from 1 mm 2 to 0.076 mm 2 with 8.1 % reduced VOC for smallest cells, attributed to perimeter surface recombination. All cells present no dramatic failure during passive or active ageing tests, which is promising for the future development of micro-CPV technologies.
