The security threats posed by climate change are shaking the traditional understanding of security and the institutional structures of national and international security and peace policy. The United Nations Security Council is under particular pressure here. So far, however, it has not officially recognized the impact of climate change on security. What are the reasons for this, how do the member states of the Security Council position themselves on this question, and what specific measures could be developed with regard to the global and far-reaching challenge?
