Plasmon-induced photocatalytic transformations

Résumé

Plasmon-induced photocatalysis has recently catapulted progress in enhancing photocatalytic efficiency under visible-light irradiation, increasing the prospect of using solar light for environmental and energy applications such as wastewater treatment, water splitting, and carbon dioxide reduction. Although widely used heterogeneous photocatalysts are semiconducting materials plasmonic metal nanostructures such as Ag, Au and Cu have been demonstrated to show significant promise in catalyzing reactions. We discuss in this chapter the concepts of plasmon-induced photochemical transformation on photocatalysts containing semiconductor and plasmonic metal nanostructures and recently reported plasmon-mediated photocatalytic reactions on these materials. We also discuss the mechanisms proposed for the plasmon-induced photocatalysis and areas that require major advancements.
