Bottom-up approach for the synthesis of grahene nanoribbons
Résumé
The controlled synthesis of graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) is crucial to fully exploit their outstanding properties. Both the top-down and the bottom-up approaches were used to fabricate GNRs. In contrast to the top-down methods in which the GNRs are directly carved from the bulk materials, the bottom-up approach is based on the controlled assembly of building blocks to create larger and structurally well-defined nanomaterials. The bottom-up synthesis of GNRs can be divided in two categories: i) the synthesis in solution and ii) the on-surface synthesis. In the following chapter, we will present these two approaches and we will give an overview of the recent literature on the synthesis and properties of the GNRs.
