Islam, architecture and globalisation : Problematic and Prospects for Research in Indonesia

Résumé

The reality of Islam and Muslim Societies seems to present a paradox. At one side, there is a strong feeling, or dream, among the muslims all over the world that they are belong to one community united by Islam. At the other side, they are proud that Islam has spread in all over the world, rooted in divers geographical areas and cultural traditions, and consequently it appears in various forms. How is the situation in the field of architecture? This paper tries to answer this question by looking at the problematic of Islam and Muslim Societies today, especially within the context of globalisation, and proposes a root question as the point of departure for researches.Ref.: Darws Khudori, "Islam, Architecture and Globalisation.
