L'art de la Préhistoire
Résumé
More than fifty years after the publication of Prehistory of Western Art by André Leroi-Gourhan, the first volume of their famous collection "Art and Great Civilizations", Citadelles & Mazenod Editions is ambitiously updating, on a global scale, all the knowledge on one of the most exciting creative times of humanity. Written by a team of international researchers, the book offers a panorama of the arts from Prehistory from Europe to Australia, through Asia, Africa and the Americas. Research on the most recently studied sites is presented, such as the Pecos River region in the United States and Narwala Gabarnmang in Australia.
With more than 600 illustrations, this vast synthesis presents humanity's first masterpieces and, using new technologies (dating, characterization of pictorial materials, 3D modeling...), provides keys to understanding the sources, the materiality and the meaning of artistic creation.
