Implementing Contact Broadband Excitation for Simulating Friction-Induced Vibrations

Résumé

Since several decades, simulations have accompanied experiments for the reproduction, analysis and prediction of vibrations induced by frictional contacts. Nevertheless, while a huge amount of efforts has been spent for modelling and simulating frictional systems under unstable vibrations (squeal instability, chatter, macroscopic stick-slip), few works deal with friction-induced vibrations under stable dynamic response of the system. Numerical simulations do not account for the broadband dynamic excitation coming from the contact interface, due to local phenomena like impacts and ruptures between asperities. This work proposes a newer approach to account for the contact excitation and simulate friction-induced vibrations.
