Stronger interaction between link layer and network layer for an optimized mobility management in heterogeneous IPv6 networks

Résumé

The evolution of both Internet and cellular networks tends toward an IP mobility scheme for data and voice communication. Mobile IPv6 has the general purpose of managing mobility between IPv6 networks and it does not focus on optimizing heterogeneous interfaces usage. Yet, new handled devices usually come with more than one means of connecting to the network. We therefore propose the establishment of a strong interaction between link and network layers which would enable anticipation of both vertical and horizontal handover. We also present results from innovative scenarios for all of the mechanisms we propose.
