Optimized support of multiple wireless interfaces within an IPv6 end-terminal

Résumé

In future mobile systems, the end-terminals will be considerably more diverse than nowadays, and the users will have a greater choice of access technologies, offering different QoS, cost, security and so on. However, delivering advanced services, preferably seamlessly, over these various access technologies will require, not only enhanced networks, but also much more functionality in the end-terminals. This paper describes the add-on adaptation techniques envisaged for an IPv6 end-terminal with several wireless interfaces. The adaptation mechanisms at different layers are detailed and the tight interactions amongst the layers are explained.
