Analysis of the faunal assemblages of the LBK site of Herxheim: the larger mammals
Résumé
The faunal remains from Herxheim comprise different assemblages, on the one hand coming from the pits within the enclosure’s interior and on the other hand from the pits making up the enclosure itself. The present study combines all the remains collected during two successive excavation campaigns on this site (rescue excavations 1996–1999 and research excavations 2005–2010). These assemblages consist mainly of the skeletal remains of large mammals collected during manual excavations carried out without sieving and complemented by some thirty fragments of bird bones
