Investigation at elevated temperature of some thermal and microstructural behaviours for three nickel-based alloys alloyed with cobalt
Three nickel-based alloys, containing chromium to resist high temperature oxidation and hot corrosion, carbon and tantalum to allow the formation of tantalum carbides with a fraction high enough to favour high mechanical properties at high temperature, as well as cobalt in two distinct contents, were produced by classical foundry. The obtained alloys were subjected to three tests of different type, aiming to observe their behaviours at high temperature, with special attention to the influence of the cobalt content on these properties. These tests were differential thermal analysis, thermodilatometry and long isothermal exposure at high temperature. The effect of the cobalt content on the melting temperature range, on the average thermal expansion coefficient and on the evolution of the characteristics of the carbides at high temperature are analyzed and discussed.
