Opto-electronic oscillator based on hybrid feedback loop for single-side band operation
Résumé
We demonstrate single-sideband opto-RF oscillation using monolithic InGaAsP DFB lasers. The heterodyne signal is stabilised by a hybrid method that combines optical reinjection and delayed opto-electronic feedback, leading to a locking of the beatnote onto a filtered version of itself. Mode-hop suppression has been obtained by (i) the introduction of a RF interferometer thanks to the use of two delay lines, and (ii) a significant shortening of the optical feedback loop, which also implies the use of direct current modulation. Our setup provides a phase noise level down to −75 dBc/Hz at 1 kHz offset from a 10 GHz carrier.
