On the measurement of the mechanical properties a Titanium/epoxy interface

Caractérisation mécanique d'une interface titane/epoxy

Résumé

In various industrial fields, structural bonging tends to replace other assembly techniques. On one side, it can join materials of different natures, has good mechanical properties, adds a negligeble weight to the structure, etc. On the other, assessing the mechanical properties of a bonded structure is not a simple problem. Main difficulties arise from strong boundary effects and/or from the complexity of the mechanical behaviour of both the substrate and the adhesive of the assembly. In this work, the mechanical properties of the interfaces of a titane/epoxy assembly were assessed. Mechanical tests were carried out and different fracture surfaces were observed. Finite Element simulations of these tests were conducted using the commercial software Abaqus in 2D plane strain. Titane substrates were assumed to have a 24 ème Congrès Français de Mécanique Brest, 26 au 30 Août 2019 linear elastic isotropic behavior. The epoxy was modeled through a linear visco-plastic isotropic behavior. Using this model, a sensitivity analysis was realized on TAST (Thick Adhere Shear Test). This analysis highlights the importance of properly modeling the boundary conditions of this type of mechanical testing. Then, cohesive zone elements were added to model titane/epoxy interfaces. Their mechanical properties were identified through an inverse optimization method based on an Efficient Global Optimization (EGO) algorithm. Results show that mode mixity allows one to determine an equation between the cohesive law parameters rather than assessing its values.
