Fixation of chelating molecules on polyphosphonates through chemical modification Part I. Synthesis and characterization

Résumé

Poly(propylene phosphonate) was treated with 2-picolylamine or 8-hydroxyquinoline via Atherton-Todd reaction to give hydrophilic organic polyphosphate-bound ligands. This was achieved in the presence of carbon tetrachloride and a base in dichloromethane solution. Model compounds derived from diethyl phosphonate were also synthesized. The final polymers as well as the model molecules were characterized by 1H, 13C and 31P NMR spectroscopy.
