Grey level optically addressed SLM using twisted ferroelectric liquid crystal

A possible way to increase of the information density of optical processing systems is to introduce the multilevel encoding. For this reason we have developed a gray scale Optically Addressed Spatial Light Modulator (OASLM) using twisted ferroelectric liquid crystals. We present the analog optical response and performance of such a device. The OASLM could work in either transmission or in reflexion and some optical considerations will be given in order to explain the optical behaviour.
