Polarization insensitive ferroelectric liquid crystal Mach-Zehnder directional coupler switch using single-mode fibres
Résumé
We describe the principle of a Mach-Zehnder directional coupler switch based on the use of single mode fibres. The binary phase retardation is obtained thanks to a large tilt angle smectic C∗ liquid crystal. The advantages of such a solution with respect to the minimization of coupling loss and cross-talk are discussed.
