Discourse Analysis of Memoranda of Understanding for Greece
Résumé
The present study attempts to go beyond the figure of the “angry Greek” so often espoused by the international media and delve into the ambivalent
xperience of the currenteconomic crisis through paying more specific attention to the way theperception ofGermany and the Germans is articulated in the public political discourse. We explore thelatter through a double approach: a top down one that foregrounds the perspective of Greekpoliticians on German political choices, and a bottom- up one that is concerned with theunravelling of the responsibility-charged rhetoric and its striking ambivalences, as they areexpressed and enacted by news readers in their online postings.
