3-D Modelling of HTS bulk submitted to an external magnetic field by means of stochastic methods

Résumé

This paper deals with the calculation of magnetic field in a superconducting piece that is submitted to a uniform sinusoidal magnetic field. This 3-D problem is set into equation and solved by means of a stochastic method developed for 3-D eddy current computations. Two different kinds of motion are applied for the Monte-Carlo methods: random walk or Brownian motion. A magnetic vector H formulation is used to solve this problem and a power law E(J) = Ec(J/Jc)n, with critical current density Jc(B) and exponent n(B) is used to represent the behaviour of the superconducting material. AC losses and magnetic field distributions obtained by the stochastic method will be presented and compared with those of a classical finite elements method. The main goal of this paper is to highlight the possibilities of stochastic methods compared to other widely used methods of resolution, especially in case of very complex time dependent problem.
