Role of anisotropies on the self organization of stressed domains on (001) surfaces of cubic crystals

Résumé

Using reciprocal space formalism, we investigate the influence of elastic anisotropy on the ground state energy of square and rectangular domains on (001) faces of cubic crystals. On one hand, for numerous cubic metals of sufficiently high elastic anisotropy, the interaction energy between square domains exhibits attractive basins around 100 directions. These basins are responsible for spontaneous symmetry breaking and lead to the apparition of domain lines. On the other hand, elastic anisotropy has very little influence on the selection of isolated domain shape. For anisotropic microscopic boundary energy favoring boundaries running in 100 directions, the equilibrium shape of stressed domains is always infinite stripes whatever the elastic anisotropy.
