Acoustic emission monitoring of honeycomb sandwich during 3-points bending tests. Dynamic of the rupture's precursors [Suivi par mission acoustique de structure sandwich composite/nid d'abeille lors de sollicitation en flexion 3 points: Analyse de la dynamique des prcurseurs de la rupture]
Résumé
Honeycomb sandwich panels find a wide range of structural applications due to their high strength and stiffness to weight ratio compared to other materials. Defects in a sandwich panel due to manufacturing, loading, or environmental and aging effects result in deterioration of stiffness and decrease in strength, compromising structural integrity. An experiment was designed and performed to evaluate the adhesive bond in honeycomb sandwich panels with acoustic emission monitoring through the 3-point bending test. It is found that the approximate location of AE hits can be determined, which demonstrates that AE has potential both as a non-destructive testing (NDT) tool and to study the failure process of non-visible sub-surface damages in sandwich structures. 2014 Lavoisier.
