Liberalization in Southeast Asia: who is capturing the markets?
Résumé
In ten countries of Southeast Asia (ASEAN), in a context of strong traffic growth and development of the airlines in the region, regulations are being changed in order to achieve a regulatory situation similar to that in Europe, both inside the region and on international routes to other countries. A multilateral agreement with China has already led to the development of international routes between China and ASEAN. In this paper, we study recent network and traffic development on international routes and the role of Chinese airlines in the development of the markets. We then focus deal on possible competition distortion between Chinese and ASEAN airlines.
