The "Invisible" Voice of the Dragoman: A Study of the Heterolingualism in Amin Maalouf's Novels
The most obvious mark of the originality of Amin Maalouf's novelistic writing lies in the ingenious way in which this author constructs, in his novels, discursive networks different from those generally found in the Francophone writings of the Mashrek. It is the polyphonic organization of the narrative that is indeed at the root of the multiplicity of identities, the diversity of perspectives and the plurality of narratives. Other narrators are being added here to the main narrator, sometimes implicitly, sometimes explicitly. Thus, the multiplicity of the voices establishes a polyphonic orchestration.
