“The Quaker Antislavery Commitment and How it Revolutionized French Antislavery through the Crèvecoeur-Brissot friendship1782-1789”
Résumé
Crèvecoeur's role in the French antislavery movement has been neglected. Yet his book Letters from an American Farmer denounces slavery and, more importantly perhaps, hails North American Quakers as pioneers in the Atlantic antislavery movement. This book chapter also focuses on how Crèvecoeur influenced Brissot's own antislavery commitment.
