For a Human Ecology, from Patrick Geddes to Benton MacKaye Patrick Geddes’ thought would probably never have known such a fortune if faithful followers hadn’t taken care of spreading it, playing a part in its enrichment and better knowledge. Lewis Mumford was one of the most influential of them, at least in the United-States, where he introduced Geddes’ ideas during the 1920’s. Geddesian thought diffused into the North-American continent all the more easily since it echoed very specific sides of the culture of the United-States. It was in perfect symbiosis with the reflexions led during the 1920’s and 1930’s by all those, as Benton MacKaye, wishing the implementation of a way of living more respectful of all the ecosystems, man being integral part of them.
