Continuity and empirical data replication in a traffic model for sustainable mobility

Résumé

The ex-ante assessment of the impacts of a traffic management scheme requires a traffic model. The assessment comes from the comparison between the results of the model with empirical data (flows, speeds) available prior to the introduction of the scheme on the site. This comparison is unbalanced, because the empirical data would not be retrieved by the model, applied when no new scheme is introduced. In the proposed macroscopic model, empirical data are retrieved since the deviations of the empirical speed to the fundamental diagram are reintroduced. The model, limited to a set of consecutive sections, was developed to make the flow and speed continuous at each traffic sensor. This continuity will be, in the future, particularly valuable when implementing calculations of fuel consumption and pollutant emissions, as these calculations are based on continuous equations. Keywords: Macroscopic & mesoscopic traffic models, data replication, continuity.
