The Reception of Schumann in France

Résumé

The paper focuses on the first phase of the reception of Schumann in France in the 1830s. This period is characterized by an intensive cooperation between musical journals in Leipzig and Paris. At the end of the paper, the later reception is examined in the light of the process of appropriation of German music in France until the 1860s.
