Why would I tell you?
Résumé
This presentation aims to share the experience acquired over two years fieldwork and activism in a marginalized neighborhood in a middle-size French city. The event at the origin of this work was the violent death of two young men in 2012 in relation to tensions between two neighboring areas. As security issues are highly political, particularly in the current context in France, it has been difficult to discuss matters of security directly, particularly being an outsider to the neighborhood and representing privilege. In search of a research method that does not “extract” knowledge from a neighborhood to build the knowledge of the academic community, intervention research as defined by Nicolas-le-Strat (2010) proofed promising in order to co-create knowledge both serving community initiatives as furthering theory about violence.
