The themes of this number of Études de Communication aims to study the operational dimension of the concept of "Information Architecture" which settled recently in the field of the information and communication sciences. Beyond the presentation of design methods or achievements, the number aims to analyze the scientific relevance of this concept from the critical point of view. By analogy with the physical architecture of constructed buildings in the real world, information architecture demonstrates ways of spatial and temporal organization of information, structuring and interactions of different contents and the information design. The data architecture and the organizational structure underlying a system of contents (texts, images, videos . . .). If the Web is the main framework in which this architecture resides, it may still apply to any complex data ecosystem, in particular mobile digital devices such as smartphones, e-books, video games, or serious games. More generally, this question of data architecture is discussed in the field of digital humanities, in particular in the domains of art and digital culture, exhibits of electronic museographic collections, the representation and display of archeological objects, etc.
