Exact method of daily planning with consideration of temporal constraints to optimize the patient's satisfaction in the home health care context

Résumé

Due to the diversity of constraints involved as well as various possible criteria to optimize, the planning of visits in the home health care context is a challenging problem. Besides the constraints of working time window, duration of care and staff qualifications, some temporal constraints linking cares between them must be considered in practice. This study is concerned with the daily planning of the visits. Our aim is to optimize the patient's satisfaction. This includes the preferences for times of care and for caregiver's gender. The objective function is modelled as a sum of penalties associated with flexible constraints. A MILP is proposed. Hard constraints taken into account include different skills of caregivers and temporal constraints: precedence, synchronization and disjunction between the tasks. Few articles consider all of these temporal constraints. Experimentations performed on instances generated according to real data's characteristics and to the size of the Home Health Care Center in Grenoble show that the proposed MILP gives a daily schedule for the caregivers, taking into account various types of temporal constraints and maximizing the patient's satisfaction.
