Irrigation of walnut trees managing the water potential
Résumé
The Creysse Research Centre has tested the use of a portable, manually-operated pressure chamber to manage irrigation based on measurements of the minimum water potential of the xylem. This method was compared to management methods based on tensiometric monitoring or soil water balance. The findings from two years of the study showed the merits and the feasibility of the method: easy installation and readouts, relevance of measurement data and possibility of actuating irrigation at given threshold values.
