This article re-visits the chameleon as figure for poetry according to John Keats, The refusal of egotism (the critique against Wordsworth; the rejection of the peacock, and the chameleonic capacity of negation; the capacity for becoming-other as mode of in-formation; the shift from chameleon to chemistry; and most importantly, Keatsian language as itself given over to chameleonic processes at the level of the letter, the sound, the word: such are the paths explored in this re-reading of Keats' letters and poems.
