Development of potentiometric sensor for sodium vapor detection

Résumé

Potentiometric planar sensor based either on β-alumina or YSZ electrolyte associated with Au/Pt electrodes couple were developed in order to investigate their potentialities for sodium vapor detection for safety applications in future nuclear reactors. Feasibility tests were conducted in a reactor allowing vapor generation from solid sodium combustion. Tested YSZ sensors show resistance to the test in harsh conditions and allow sodium vapor measurement with detection limit around 10-6 g/cm3 and sensitivity of 7.10-4 gNa/mV.
