Structural reliability analysis of deteriorating RC bridges considering spatial variability
Résumé
This paper proposes an extension of random field theory for modeling spatial variability of deterioration
processes, herein, the expansion Karhunen-Loève is used. The studied structure is discretized into
several elements and system reliability is used to evaluate the probability of failure. Some considerations for
optimal discretization will be also discussed in the paper. The series system methodology will be applied to
the reliability analysis of a RC bridge girder placed in a chloride-contaminated environment. The results of
this study illustrate the importance of including spatial variability in the problem.
