              <p>The squeeze flow behaviour of different paste-like materials is considered experimentally. Analysing the evolution of the squeeze force as a function of time for different controlled velocities, the paste is found to present two main flow regimes. The first regime is characterized by the situation in which the force decreases when the velocity decreases, which is expected and corresponds to a viscous flow of the material. In the second regime, the force increases when the velocity decreases which is shown to correspond to a filtration of the solvent through the particle skeleton that behaves then as a quasi-rigid porous media. The transition between the two regimes is shown to be controlled by a Peclet number, which is defined to be the ratio of the characteristic time of paste flow to the characteristic time of the fluid filtration through the porous media made up by the solid phase.</p>

            <abstract xml:lang="fr">
              <p>Nous considérons l’écoulement entre deux disques se rapprochant à vitesse constante, de différentes pâtes réelles ou modèles. Nous montrons que le comportement de la force normale s’exerçant sur les disques correspond à deux régimes différents selon la vitesse de compression. Pour de fortes vitesses, la force normale augmente lorsque la vitesse augmente, ce qui correspond à l'écoulement visqueux non-Newtonien de la pâte. Au dessous d'une certaine vitesse critique, une séparation de phase apparaît, et le sens de variation de la force en fonction de la vitesse s'inverse. Nous montrons que ces deux régimes peuvent être décrits par un nombre de Peclet, défini par le rapport entre le temps caractéristique de déformation de la pâte et le temps caractéristique de filtration du fluide interstitiel à travers le milieu poreux constitué par les grains formant la pâte.</p>
